Jesus and Sergio Encarnacion, the two chefs trained by Bernard Dehaene continued the legacy of Mannequin Pis under the management of the current owners Loren and Peter Gomes.

What bugged me throughout the night was having to tell the various servers who ordered what for every single thing that came to the table--drinks, each of the three courses, coffee. This was compounded by the fact that the restaurant got a bit loud as the evening progressed and we were dining with two older people who did not always remember what they ordered or could not hear when the server asked.
Added to this were inordinately long pauses between courses and to get the check. At the very least, it seemed to me, they need to add a few staff members. As for the food I think they do a great job with main courses--the sea bass, steaks and rabbit at our table were all delicious. Appetizers were hit and miss--salads and soup were tasty but the smoked salmon roll of crabmeat was tasteless. Lastly, I had planned to get dessert but when hearing the list--belgian waffle, lots of ice creams, creme brulee, bread pudding it was pretty obvious that they have no dedicated pastry chef.
The bread pudding and creme brulee I tasted were just ordinary. Lastly, on my previous visit I remember that the bread had been really delicious but on this trip it could have come from Giant, stale and no taste. Just my two cents. I went to have dinner with my wife. We didn t know the restaurant but we were very pleased. The ambiance was good you feel like in a french bistro , the food well prepared and delicious. The wine list has moderate good prices and a good variety.
This restaurant is the ideal place to go to enjoy an authentic Belgian experience without crossing an ocean. Every item on the food and beverage menu is tempting.
We come to this restaurant for our anniversary for the past several years. We truly enjoy the food. This year for our 35th anniversary we made reservations well in advance for 7 adults and 1 baby. Reservations where confirmed by them, 2 days before coming they cancelled our reservation saying they don t allow children under 8 years of age!

It has been a year since I paid a visit to a Belgian eatery in the Palisades neighborhood that served decent food, but, however, it left me uninspired to write a blog about their offerings. As I was about to scratch this cuisine off my to-eat-list, someone mentioned to me about another restaurant in the Maryland suburbs way up north of town which he raved about for its dishes and he insisted that I paid it a visit. Mannequin Pis is located in the northern suburb of Olney , about 30 minutes north in Montgomery County, in a short nondescript strip mall that does not quite inspire much hope for fine dining. Located behind a larger strip mall and sandwiched other establishments serving fast and cheap eats, the establishment stands out with its patio furniture and the heavily decorated window front plastered with numerous dining awards. With an online coupon in hand that spurred me to make a spontaneous visit, I walked in on a rather late hour on a quiet Monday night, hoping to avoid a large crowd no walk-ins on the weekends and to get a choice seat to take some decent photos for the blog.
Took a friend out for Dinner at a wonderful little cozy Belgium Bistro. The food was absolutely amazing. I have been there many times to. It was excellent with a wonderful wine. The wsit staff was very attentive. An intimate restaurant with friendly service, the food is average and the prices high. Tuesday Prix Fixe specials, Groupons and Clipper Magazine coupons abound but even with the discounts, I still feel I have spent too much money for my meal. Fish and mussels are the best items on the menu. The steak and duck are not memorable. Wine and beer prices are reasonable, although their selection is often a wish list.

We went to a nearby restaurant that had mussels and it reminded us that we had not been to le Mannequin Pis in quite a while. The very next day we received a coupon in the mail so made plans for a date night. It was hard to get a reservation over the weekend so settled on Sunday night. We like patronizing small local places like this and try to patronize them versus big national chains. I should point out that my husband and I spent over 10 years going to Brussels several times a year for work. We therefore have many memories of the mussel restaurants there. The first thing we notices was that the walls are no longer lined with bottles of wine and belgian biers. Must be the economy. The wine list was sparse and very over-priced. My husband ordered the escargot and the flemish beef stew. Loved the escargot - the stew not so much. It came topped with a mustard garnish that didn t add anything but heat that was incongruous to the dish. Some pieces were very tender and others very tough. I order a salad and the devil mussels.

My husband s diet is limited to lactose free, low salt. This restaurant was incredibly accomodating to both of these issues. He and our son-in-law loved the mussels and my husband was able to thoroughly enjoy every part of the meal. My daughter and I enjoyed The family went to have a Christmas Eve dinner. It was wonderful. The mussels were tender. The sauce, delicious. My sons had the salmon filet and seared salmon filet. My wife had the filet minion.
